The ‘Dutch Society for Industry and Trade’ (NL: ‘De Maatschappij voor Handel en Nijverheid’) celebrated its 240th anniversary in 2017. I am proud that in honor of this jubilee I have been asked to design and manufacture the sculpture LUCID
The sculpture was presented to King Willem Alexander, patron of ‘De Maatschappij’ and has been placed in the King’s work-chamber at Noordeinde Palace in The Hague.
The statue is made of Moca, a Portuguese limestone, it is placed on a foot of Belgian bluestone. The work symbolizes, the 3 founding pillars of ‘De Maatschappij’: government, schools and Industries. The dynamics of the organization of ‘De Maatschappij’ can be recognized in the V-shaped grooves. They symbolize their mantra: ‘connecting, inspiring and innovating’.
