Carrara

In the summer of 2018 I worked in ‘sculptor paradise’, Carrara, Italy.  Just outside the village of Torrana in the foothills of the ‘Cava Michelangelo’. Indeed, that is the quarry where the block of marble was excavated from which the world-famous ‘David’ of Michelangelo Buonarrotti was made…

My experience in Carrara?  I can say “In comparison I hardly have any knowledge of stone”. With fascination and awe I enjoyed the skill and knowledge of my coach and master ‘artisan’ Mario Fruendi of Studio SGF

My sculpture was carved from a solid block of Statuario Marble from the ‘Cava Michelangelo’.  Well over 400 kg of the finest and most beautiful Marble that exists. I have finished the sculpture in Holland; I am really happy with the result.  Soon the result will be available in the gallery.
